This is another one of the northern Thailand provinces that isn’t especially known for tourism. However, it attracts people who like to veer from the norm, who like to explore the mountains, and who are at peace with quiet.
One of the most iconic sights is Wat Phumin, and its many frescoes on the inside walls including the image of the whispering couple.
When you are in Nan, you can find rural cafes and restaurants overlooking rice fields, learn about mountain salt production, visit indigenous tribes, check out the Nan Riverside Art Gallery, eat dinner along the Nan river, and visit a small museum that recounts the struggle of communist insurgents in Nan 40 years ago.
